Digression - Silverlight and WCF - Koen Zwikstra

Look at this post to get a flavor for some of the issues
regarding setting up hosting with WCF - webservice.

http://silverlight.net/forums/p/94986/220897.aspx#220897

It's a bit involved and WCF is a bit involved ---
Now - no one has told me - nor have I seen it anywhere,
that WCF is the prefered method of communication with
silverlight ---- but without some type of communication
process - silverlight - besides being interesting - doesn't
really get you very far with an interactive website ----

So I choose a path to make connectivity happen and cause
you can only go down one path at a time --- I decided on
WCF although I did play with the idea of using WLM ---
windows live messenger/P2P for a while ----

Which brings us to Koen Zwikstra - and his
projects - at:

First Floor

I want to get back to this path again - but for now -
I'm truddling/limbing down the WCF road/highway (of death?)

Bill Reiss

Another great source of info for me was Bill Reiss -
at http://www.bluerosegames.com
especially this tutorial section:

http://www.bluerosegames.com/silverlight-games-101

This tutorial was very helpful for getting me off the ground
and also for getting me through the key input which is part
of the current game ----

This is really a great site, and also you might note that
Bill was recently named the first official -- MVP for
Silverlight ---- !!!

Anyway ---- definitely worth a look if you have any interest
in game development or Silverlight in general .....

Charles Petzold

I don't know where to start - how about window's 3.1 ?????

Maybe a good place....
He didn't exactly sell me on this product - but
his involvement certainly adds a lot of credibility ...
although he has been mostly a microsoft kind of guy ...
but - I don't mean that in a "bad" way ...

He's obviously one of the seriously - outstanding -
programmer's around - and I have a great deal of
admiration for this guy ---- his website is ...

www.charlespetzold.com

In reference to omnicrons - I use a bunch of his code to do animation
on a path - a well as I intend on using his code to allow me to
put text on a path ..... really - really - cool stuff -
IMHO ....

I'm not quite up to speed - but I'm thinking that alot of this stuff
is in SL3 - but I'm doing SL2 ------- for now .....

Laurent Bugnion

I don't know what came first - the chicken or the egg - but
there is a significant connection between my involvement with
Silverlight and Mr. Bugnion's book - Silverlight 2 UNLEASHED -
which I've been reading ? for some time now....

But - whatever - in the foreword of his book Brad Adrams -
(a microsoft guy...blogs.msdn.com/brada-)

states the following :

==> Silverlight 2 is a web application technology...... <==

and that's the first place I heard that -----

so what exactly is a ---- web application technology ---- ??????

I would say --- perl --- but --- it was never meant to be that.
Java ???? --- again --- an accident .....
? python ? I don't know .... maybe ....

Let me see ... okay ... php ---- well yes ---- I would say so ...
or flash --- yes ...

Well, there are others I'd guess - but it's hard to make a
clear comparision --- like between colby, monterey jack, swiss, or cheddar ...

Nevertheless - I will say this ----
Laurent Bugnion is swiss - an ms mvp 2007 and 2008 and a MCTS - which -
I don't even know what that is ....

But let him speak for himself ----
his blog is at ---- blog.galasoft.ch

I have to add a little note of mystery here --- maybe someday I'll understand
it ...

Following his procedure in chapter 22 for adding a web-service - wcf -
which I'm using for the logon - for the omnicrons site -

I did everything and when I tried to set up the service client - it
said no way ---- because - and I'm sorry but after shutting down my
machine --- it works now .... so ???????? oh - well - this is life
in a world with xaml .... I guess .... ( I can't remember the error
-- ohhhhhhh god! )

omnicrons test site:

Here is the silverlight test site:

omnicrons.net.previewdns.com

which still requires wcf to be set up///

which I'm in the process of doing now ...

as well as getting my google domain - pointing
in the right direction....

just another day in paradise,.,.,.

I created a new sourceforge project to
convert my existing silverlight project
to a java-based system....

That location is:

omnicrons-javav.sourceforge.net

and there is a download for a c# desktop
version of my game:

I don't now if I mentioned that I developed
a game and now have a domain omnicrons.net
registered through google. I am hosting
this app currently at godaddy - haven't
yet got the records pointing there.

Hi My Name is Marc

Hi:

My name is Marc, and I am a silverlight addict.
I'm trying to quit and this blog may help with
the salvation of my soul - kind of a twelve steps
system - only I'm not sure about all the steps and
I really don't have a sponsor -

What is worse is that I'm in the process of creating
a silverlight website and wcf - webservice. WCF is
not so bad and I really don't have any - addiction
issues with it - even though I like it alot.

Silverlight is a horse of a different color - that's
for sure - I've never had these issues with a programming
- whatever it is - thing - before. And I've worked with
CORBA, COM, DL-1, DB2, Perl, Java, C++, ect.

But in all honesty I have to say that this is not only
about me and my addictions - but also I will use
this blogs particularly to mention some of the "good"
people who have enabled my addiction. But I'm not going
to start now with that ....

So - fair warning -

We'll see how this all evolves....
